It is a very nice knife. You can tell right away it is well made and has nice heft in the hand. The grip is very good with plenty of texture. Blade is razor sharp out of the box. I have tendency to compare most Bowies to the Cold Steel Marauder which has superior handling and and excellent weight in the hand. The Marauder wants to stay in your hand. This knife doesn’t have that characteristic owing the lack of rubberized handle material. However with the a good strong grip is doesn’t matter much. A lot of people dog the sheath but I like the sheath. I wear it tied down to my thigh. The small compartment on the sheath is the perfect size to hold either a small flashlight like a mag light or a Lux-Pro. It also fits a cold steel recon 1 large perfectly in case you want a smaller knife for any reason. I like this knife enough to buy a second one, which is not something I do with most knives except cold steel.

I am really reviewing two different knives.
I ordered one of these and kind of fell in love with it. I don’t know that it’s a practical knife for me, but I love the way it looks and feels. So I ordered a second one.
The second knife did not arrive with a proper edge on it. When I shine a flashlight at the edge, I can SEE the cutting edge reflecting a thin sliver of light. A knife that is truly sharp will not have a reflective edge.this second Prather needs a little honing before it’s really ready to use. That’s a poor start for a knife that’s over $150.
The second knife also doesn’t fit its sheath as well as the first knife does. The first snaps in with a little click and is retained. The second won’t.
The first knife cuts a lot like a Kabar USMC fighting knife or a similar combat knife. Mediocre cutting efficiency. But it feels great in my big hands, and I love the blade shape.

I’m not 100% crazy about the knife, but that isn’t Chicago’s fault. It’s not even Tops’ fault. This one is just a little thicker and heavier than I would prefer. It also doesn’t cut as easily as I’d like. Tops made the call to make it heavy so it would be strong, and that compromises cutting ability. It’s just a matter of preference.
