This is my new favorite self defense knife. If you don’t have L or XL wide hands, it may not be the best option for you, due to the grip. It came reasonably sharp, but certainly not hair-shaving sharp. For the price at this store, it’s nearly impossible to find a better fighting Bowie/trench knife (other stores charge over $110). I’m extremely pleased, & the sheath is excellent (just like all Cold Steel Secure-Ex Sheaths). I own the Ontario SP10 Marine Raider Bowie as well. That knife takes a lot more work to sharpen, has an inferior sheath, & is more of a camp/survival Bowie. The Cold Steel Chaos Bowie can be used as a survival knife, but it shines in self defense. IMO, SK-5 is the best high carbon steel for knives such as this. You just need to make sure you oil it every few months, depending on your climate. For equivalent knife designs, people pay $300-$450 for fancy stainless steels. Those expensive stainless steels will chip & break long before SK-5. Just buy some mineral oil, & your all set.
