I have several large machete style chopping knives and the Schrade Leroy is better than all of them. The edge retention of AUS8 is superior to carbon steel, 420HC, and miles beyond 3cr13. The only reason I only rated it 4 stars is the handle scales. They feel weak and cheap, but I have to admit they have not yet failed. I wish the handle was one solid piece of overmolded TPE, but that’s the only drawback. I have seen a couple of videos of broken Leroys on YouTube, but those are all the 8CR13MOV version that comes in grey. Make sure to get the AUS8 version which is black, it’s tougher.
