All the good stuff that the reviewers say about this knife is spot on. I was torn between the Rat 2 vs the Rat 1 and decided to go with Rat 1 since it has the bigger blade and sure enough, I got a BIGGER knife.
Feels good on the hand in the open position and there’s a spot for your index finger to rest on with a well placed jimping for your thumb.
I’m glad I got the tan color for a less threatening appearance when deployed. The holes and screws give it some contrast, but I do plan to give it a dark color wash on the scales to subdue the plasticky look of the light colored G10.
It might be a better EDC in an outdoor situation so most likely I will get the Rat 2 for urban EDC as well. However, on a sitting position, the Rat 1 does not feel too bulky if situated to the right most or left most (towards the hip) of your jeans’ front pockets.
This was not a blade I fell for at first sight in photos and it’s one of those knives you have to see and feel in person to realize why it will become a classic for the brand. In short, it quickly grew on me and fell for it with abandon.
I saved it for last from a seven-knife order and I’m glad I did because it did not disappoint as the finale.
