the knife is lovely and a very good production version of the Hill original. well worth owning.

the sheath, on the other hand, is a joke. the belt mount is sewn into the inside of the sheath and entry and exit of the knife cuts the sewing, with the result that the sheath came apart within the first day. beside the sewing, the sheath is basically glued together, which also fell apart on day one.

sadly, only buy this is (a) you can’t get the Hill original, and (b) you’re prepared to rebuild, reglue, and restitch the sheath. after which you’ll want to get something slightly larger than the blade, to condition to the sheath to accept the blade, since it’s too small. you’ll be soaking the sheath, letting it dry on the slightly larger proxy, and then oiling it. genuinely. it’s total garbage.

or, if you have the money, buy a better sheath. Spartan Blades sells a lovely leather sheath for the Spartan V-14 that fits this blade. it’s about another $150 though. so add that to your total cost of ownership.

Overall great construction and I’m happy with the knife, but as others on various website comments/reviews have complained, the blade came from the Maniago, Italy factory extremely dull. When I say “extremely dull” I mean I can run the cutting edge back and forth along the palm of my hand and not be cut. Not only that, the micro bevels are inconsistent and begin at different lengths near the plunges. Perhaps minor nit-picking but for the MSRP and typical going rate for these knives (some dealers list it for almost $300), you’d think there would be slightly better quality control. Not sure why these 1/4″ thick and 1″ wide blades aren’t manufactured with a near zero grind like the original Sykes or the early Gerber Mark II. There is just no way to really achieve the same level of sharpness with the Fox knife without some edge rework. Having said all that, the tip on this thing is hypodermic needle sharp and at the end of the day stabbing attacks is its primary design function. Bottom line: I do not regret the purchase and would buy it again. 4/5
