Matthew Philip Adler –
Not 8cr13mov but 3cr13mov, which is an understandable mistake since 8 and 3 are very similar, and Kershaw uses 8cr in many of their import knives in this price range. This is first and foremost as concealable personal defense knife that will handle utility tasks if need be. I personally keep a pristine edge on my defense carries; god forbid I need to use it, I want it sharp and ready. I wouldn’t normally ever say this, but I think 3cr is a good choice for this knife at the price. Its a softer steel that gets quite sharp with minimal effort, and it’s pretty darn tough, so you are much less likely to chip the edge or snap a tip should your knife find its way to something hard within the soft target. this has plenty of length to be effective, and penetration will be effortless. Its feather light and this as can be with a totally decent, slim, well designed sheath. I understand if you want a fuller handle on your lifesaver, but in plenty of situations, slim and discreet is gonna be the move, and this is gonna do what you need it to do. Edge retention should not be much of a concern…after all, you should have a EDC folder in your pocket for everything else. I like this design, and I really get why it has stood the test of time. If you need a badass shank for the worst day of your life, you could do a lot worse. Thanks as always to my favorite distributor, Chicago Knife Works! Best in the biz.
